Dominique Navarro

Born and based in Los Angeles, Dominique has worked in Egypt since 2011.

The thread connecting Dominique’s professional projects are history and science. As an artist, she has worked on an array of assignments from television documentaries to natural history publications, forensic imagery to archeological epigraphic art.

Emmy Award Winner for Outstanding Art Direction 35th Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards. Dominique has worked as an Art Director in the documentary TV and Hollywood film industry for programs featured on the History Channel, Discovery, National Geographic and more.

Epigraphic Artist — Since 2016, Dominique has worked as an artist in Luxor, Egypt, for the Epigraphic Survey of the Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures, The University of Chicago. Founded in 1924, “Chicago House” sets the highest standards for epigraphic art, documenting the hieroglyphs and wall reliefs of ancient Egyptian temples and tombs for publication and posterity. In 2023, Dominique began epigraphic art documentation at Khonsu Temple for the American Research Center Egypt.

Author & Illustrator with AUC Press — Since 2012, Dominique has worked with the American University in Cairo Press on numerous books and natural history publications highlighting the wildlife of Egypt. AUC Press is the leading English-language publisher in the Middle East.

Curator & Founder of Luxor Art Gallery — Since 2018, Dominique established and maintains a contemporary art gallery and website promoting the local community of artists to highlight the living art scene within the ancient Egyptian environment of Luxor, Egypt.

Dominique graduated from the University of California Los Angeles School of the Arts. Her professors included artists Charles Ray, Chris Burden, and Catherine Opie. She also studied forensic art under Karen T. Taylor and Betty Pat. Gatliff. At the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego she was an intern and assistant to the Education Curator helping prepare educational material and giving docent tours of the exhibitions which included artworks by Francis Bacon, Louise Bourgeouis, John Baldessari, and William Kentridge.

In 2017, Dominique was invited to participate in the 5th Upper Egypt Art Salon as an artist and member of the Selection Committee. In 2022, she was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for her artistic services to the community during the Tutankhamun National Holiday by the Misr (Egyptian) Public Library & Luxor Heritage Center.
